Kastanis accepts Distinguished Alumnus Award from Queens College, Political Science Department

I was so grateful to be a part of the Queens College Political Science Department’s Honors and Awards Ceremony - Commencement on May 12, 2022, and also humbled to receive their Distinguished Alumnus Award.  I say humbled because I graduated several decades ago, and although I have visited and lectured there a few times, I thought a large group of generation Z (also referred to as ‘Zoomers’) would not be able to relate to my message. It was a big relief to observe that my life and professional experiences resonated amongst this crowd, with a special interest in how their new BA degree in Political Science had prepared them for many applications in different fields, especially in healthcare. With that, and encouragement to equally pursue personal interests, hobbies and curiosities, I wished them all great success in the careers they pursue, but most importantly, to judge themselves by the degree to which they enjoy peace, health and love.

And many thanks to the faculty for continuing to bring me back home to Queens College!
